Application Procedures

These guidelines should prove helpful if your organization is interested in applying to our Foundation for a grant. A meeting is required prior to submitting an application.

Seven copies of your proposal are needed. Proposals are considered at our Board of Trustees meetings as follows:

Deadline Board Meeting
March 1
April
May 1
June
September 1
October
November 1
December

Every effort will be made to notify the applicant of the receipt of the completed proposal within 15 working days.

All Applications Must Include:

General Information
  • History, development and mission of your organization
  • Names, qualifications and positions of involved personnel
  • Names and affiliations of Board Members
  • Copy of your organization's IRS exemption letter
Financial Information
  • Most recent financial statement certified by your Chief Financial Officer or Certified Public Accountant
  • Source of your organization's funds for this project/program and the current year
  • Budget for year in which project/program will take place
Project/Program Information
  • Project/program objective, description and need
  • Geographic area to be served
  • Outline of project/program phases from beginning to end
  • Detailed project/program budget, including funding requested from the Decker Foundation and funding requests from other sources
  • How success of your project/program will be measured

The Foundation will not make grants directly to individuals. Further, as a general rule, we will not make grants for:

  • Endowments
  • Religious organizations for religious purposes
  • Operating expenses
  • Continuing support
  • Travel and trips
Additional Information

Grants are made upon the approval of the Board of Trustees.

Generally, grants are made on a one-year basis, and will be paid on a mutually agreeable schedule.

Recipients must report periodically:

  • Acknowledging receipt of the grant
  • Progress reports on expenditure of funds awarded
  • Upon termination of a grant period, a complete accounting of all disbursements
  • Project/program success versus expectations

Grant amounts are not based on a specific formula, but instead on a full review of individual circumstances and fund-raising strategy proposed by the applicant. Applications for amounts under $5,000 are considered at any time and must meet the same guidelines as applications for larger amounts, except for the deadlines. For grants of $5,000 or smaller, only one copy of application is needed.

The Decker Foundation, in general, does not provide continuing or regular operating support. Our efforts are directed toward helping organizations provide programs to earn income and thus become self-sufficient.

Interest in the Decker Foundation is welcome. Application forms are available by phone or by written request to:
