- NOTICE:
Dear family, friends, far and near, Some of you know some of my news, others may not. So bear with me if I am repeating to some of you. I retired Wed. Nov. 1. My last day of work was Oct. 31, and they really had a bash for me! My staff did themselves up really proud, and funny and hilarious, etc. When I walked into the office, there was great wailing and crying, and noise. The staff all dressed in black that day, and had black balloons and crepe paper and lots of stuff that said, "You know you're getting older when....." They trashed my office. I didn't get alot of work done, but we sure had fun! It was their way of saying, "we'll miss you." I miss them too. Friday night, Nov. 3, was our usual monthly Sunday School get together. I was suspicious of things, but had no idea what was going on. My class put on a surprise retirement dinner for me. I was surprised! Then another surprise which was even greater was when my sister, Gladys, came from behind a screen! Wow, what a surprise. I had no idea that she was even near Florida. Well, I learned later that my whole family knew about this project six months ago, or more. After the dinner, the program was like, "this is your life". They started with my early life and family, and followed through my whole life! Schooling, mission work, etc. There were letters from some of you, and people far and near. Wow, what a lot of work for Judy Phillips who worked on this project for 6 months or more, and with my sister Gladys, who raided my scrapbooks and photo albums still stored up in her house! It was a wonderful evening and I shall never forget it. I didn't know how much I was loved. Well, it is wonderful having Gladys here. She has been helping me in packing. Tomorrow I move into a new home. It is a renovated house with an addition. And PTL a church in New York state gave a gift which was 50% of the needed funds! That was a surprise too. We have been working today and some other ladies helped us, packing boxes. My kitchen here is empty, but we have bowls and spoons for our cereal in the morning! My phone will be disconnected in the morning here, and hopefully connected in the new house by evening. I am not sure how long I will be off email. My computer may be connected right away or maybe it will be a few days before someone can help me with that. Anyway, if you don't hear, you know I'll get back to you eventually. Phone # is the same: 863-385-0037. (New area code). So far as my address is concerned, continue using the same one for now. I will be going to St. Petersburg, FL. on Dec. 1 for a rest and change after I get settled into my new house. I need to talk to the postal staff to see how to arrange my mail. I don't want to have to make 2 address changes. So I'll be in touch with you and let you know what's happening in due time. I'm going to the D. & D. Missionary Homes in St. Petersburg for a good long rest, and change. The mission wants me to do this, and it will get me right away from the work here. I will miss it but I know it is for the best. Sometime I have to make the break with the work, and so this will be a good way to do it. I will be over there for 6 months, but will be able to come back for Christmas and doctor/dental appts., etc. There may be volunteers living in my house, so I can stay with my friend Helen whenever I come back. So thank you for your prayers and love, and concern. Hope you are all well. Love to all, Elaine

Biographical Information
One of Elaine Douglas' greatest joys is 'enabling missionary veterans to
continue their service for the Lord in retirement and to finish their course
in victory and joy.'
As the head nurse at SIM's
Retirement Village at Sebring, Florida, Elaine helps the Sebring staff
to provide the best possible health care for every retired SIM missionary
who lives there.
Not only does she arrange physical exams and consultations for retirees,
she also works with local doctors to plan for the care of her patients.
She also supervises a staff of three nurses at the Village.
Prior to becoming a home staff missionary, Elaine served God through
a medical ministry in Ethiopia from 1961 to 1977. She has been at Sebring
since 1978.
Please keep Elaine Douglas in your prayers as she works behind the scenes
to help make SIM's outreach possible. Your support is crucial to her ministry,
as well as to the work of SIM missionaries overseas.
