While scientific data supports the Bible's brief account of Creation, much has been made of speculative interpretations of the data which tend to support only the scientist's preconceived notions. When all is said and done, Genesis contains the only eye-witness account of the beginning of the Universe. Sorry Carl Sagan, there really is a God and you aren't Him!

Don't think too harshly of God for putting Abraham through this test; He'll be put through this same test himself before long.
But enough foreshadowing.
Abraham proved faithful though God stopped him at the last minute from actually sacrificing his son. God promised Abraham and his descendants the rich land of Canaan, though informing him that for 400 years the nation would be slaves in a foreign country.
Abraham moved his family to Canaan.

The best-loved of the 12, Joseph, had dreams about his family bowing down to him and assumed they would be pleased to hear of it.
They weren't.
Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers out of jealousy but God carefully orchestrated events such that Joseph eventually became governor of the land of Egypt and brought his father and brothers with their families, about 70 people altogether, to live there to escape a severe famine in the land. And yes, they eventually did end up voluntarily bowing down to Joseph.
The book of Exodus, written by Moses, gets its name from the famous
exodus or departure the Israelites made from Egypt.

It begins with the nation of Israel doing well in the land of Egypt until a new king or Pharaoh came to power who enslaved them. After nearly 400 years as slaves, God raised up Moses to lead the Israelites to freedom into the land He had promised Abraham's descendants would possess.
First, though, God displayed His power through Moses with 10 awesome plagues on Egypt and on the house of Pharaoh to convince him to let the Israelites, now numbering over 600,000, go.

| Police Report
Last evening the unnamed occupant of 212 Tent Lane reported that someone had removed the tent peg from the northwest corner of her dwelling. When police responded, they found that the peg was indeed missing. After searching the vicinity and questioning neighbors, the occupant of 214 Tent Lane claims that he saw a fashionably dressed woman of indeterminate age carrying a peg and a hammer north up the street. Police were then called to Harvest Lane where an unknown woman came running up to them shouting something incoherent about there being a tent peg in Sisera's Temple. Hoping to solve the case of the missing tent peg but never having heard of this particular Temple they inquired as to where this Sisera's Temple might be. The only response they could get out of the distraught woman was that it was pinned to the ground. Thinking the woman was merely stating the obvious they asked her to point in the direction of the Temple. She led them to a nearby tent and pointed inside. Still uncertain of the woman's meaning they inquired where Sisera's Temple was. "Attached to his head, silly" she finally blurted out. Upon entering the tent, police realized that Sisera's Temple was not a place but an anatomical part of Sisera, a man. When asked if she could identify the now-embedded tent peg, the occupant of 212 Tent Lane said they all looked alike to her but that if it was her tent peg, she "didn't want it back now." |

The book of Ruth is a recounting of how Ruth, though a foreigner, became the great-grandmother of King David. This all happened during the time of the Judges and is a very touching love story.
The book of First Samuel recounts the lives of Samuel, the last of the
judges; Saul, Israel's first King who fell from power because of disobedience;
and David, Israel's most famous King. During his reign and his son's after
him, the nation of Israel reached the height of its glory.

Matthew wrote for a Jewish audience drawing heavily from
the Old Testament to show that Jesus fulfilled all of the prophesies about
the coming Savior.

Mark gave a very concise and action-packed version of
Jesus' life to appeal to a Roman audience.
|
Dr. Luke, MD. included a lot of historical details to indicate when the events of Jesus' life took place. | John's account of Jesus' life has a markedly different vantage point from the other 3 in that he was more intimately acquainted with Jesus. Also, since he wrote his account long after the others, John purposely avoided repeating what had already been written. | |

Mankind had sinned starting with Adam & Eve right down to every last one of us and just like God warned Adam & Eve, the punishment for this form of rebellion was death, eventual physical death and eternal separation from God. But God loved the world so much that He sent His one and only Son to die for our sins. All God requires of us is to personally accept His free gift of salvation - eternal life with Him by accepting Christ as our savior, our substitute. This message of reconciliation is known as the gospel, or good news.

Paul at first persecuted the church, doing all he could to crush it.
But Jesus appeared to him and recruited him to preach the good news to
Jews and Gentiles alike and to their kings as well. Paul and the other
apostles traveled throughout Eastern Europe and parts of Asia starting
churches.

They generally are letters bringing to light many of Jesus' teachings,
encouraging believers to keep the faith and to hold to the truths of the
Bible.
James, the half-brother of Jesus wrote the book of James to Jewish Christians everywhere, stressing practical Christian living.

Re: Salvation by faith in Jesus Christ Dear Pope :) Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God-- the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures regarding his Son, who as to his human nature was a descendant of David, and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord. Through him and for his name's sake, we received grace and apostleship to call people from among all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith. And you also are among those who are called to belong to Jesus Christ. To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ. First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world. God, whom I serve with my whole heart in preaching the gospel of his Son, is my witness how constantly I remember you in my prayers at all times; and I pray that now at last by God's will the way may be opened for me to come to you. I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong-- that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith. |
After returning to Jerusalem, Paul was taken prisoner during which time he had opportunity to preach to governors and kings called in to hear his case.
Paul wrote the books of Ephesians, Colossians, Philemon, Philippians, First Timothy, Titus and finally Second Timothy.
The apostle Peter wrote 2 letters during this time as well.

Jude, another of Jesus' half-brothers, wrote the book of Jude and then the Apostle John, probably the last living apostle, wrote 3 short letters and then the book of Revelation telling of things which will shortly come to pass. In many ways it carries on Daniel's prophecies of the yet-to-occur future. The book, and with it, the Bible end with a glimpse into eternity future.
There you have it: a whirlwind tour of the Bible - the most important book in the world.
